Healthy "Pup"cakes

"Pup"-Cakes All Natural Banana and Peanut Butter topped with a treat. #dreamsmorerealthanreality
I came up with this recipe because my puppy, Kona, was turning a year old and I wanted to make her something special that wouldn't be bad for her. This recipe has all natural ingredients (as long as you use fresh ground peanut butter, not jarred, they have way to many preservatives, sugar, and sodium for your pup). A lot of people seemed to use a cream cheese frosting for the dog, but that's not as healthy. So I came up with this frosting using greek yogurt and ingredients from the pup-cake. The recipe will make about 24 mini cupcakes (there was extra leftover with mine for 1 bigger one). I would suggest halving the recipe if you don't want that many of them. Although you can always freeze them.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake for 14-16 minutes.

"Pup" Cake Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup Peanut Butter (All Natural/Fresh Ground)
  • 2 Bananas (ripe)
  • 1/2 Cup Applesauce (Vegetable oil will work as well, the applesauce is just a healthy substitute)
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 1/2 Cups 100% Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1/3 Cup Rolled Oats
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon
Directions:

Microwave peanut butter for 45 seconds- 1 minute (keep an eye on it, you just want to soften it a bit). Add in the 2 bananas and mash together. Beat the eggs in a separate bowl and add to banana mixture. Stir in the applesauce. Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl (flour, rolled oats, baking powder, and baking soda) and slowly stir into mixture. This is a very thick recipe.
Make your own cupcake for your dog- filled with banana and peanut butter!
Spray the mini- muffin pan and fill almost to top (they will rise a little bit). Bake and let cool before frosting.

Frosting Ingredients:
  • 1 Cup Peanut Butter (All Natural/Fresh Ground)
  • 1 Ripe Banana
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1/4 Cup Yogurt (I use Greek yogurt, but any will do)
Directions:

Combine all frosting ingredients in a bowl until smooth (Pretty Simple). Note that this frosting recipe is just enough if you make the full pup-cake recipe. If you half the recipe, half the frosting recipe as well. **Make sure to refrigerate, these are very perishable if left out. **
You can top the pup-cake with a torn up Beggin' Strip or any other kind of natural dog treat you have around.

Happy First Birthday to my Puppy- Her very own Pup- Cake! #dreamsmorerealthanreality

She thought it was a success :)!
